Austin Acks

Washington University in St. Louis

Austin graduated from Charlotte Latin School in May 2016 in the top 5 in his class and will attend Washinton University in St. Louis in the fall. He plans to major in neuroscience and play soccer while at the university. At Charlotte Latin, Austin participated in student council as student body VP, served as an admissions ambassador, and took part in the Charlotte Latin International Exchange.

Anza Abbas

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Anza graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2016. She first attended CPCC for two years after coming from United States from Pakistan and later transferred to Chapel Hill to receive degrees in global studies and economics. At Chapel Hill, Anza was a Resident Assistant, a member of the William Friday Center, and took part in the Carolina Global Initiatives. She studied abroad in Rwanda and the Netherlands, continuing the growth of her passion for global studies and other cultures.

Rachel Dyl

Denison University

Rachel is a rising junior at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She is majoring in International Studies and Spanish and has an academic concentration in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. At Denison, Rachel plays on the Varsity soccer team, is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, works for admissions as a tour guide, and is a writer for the Denisonian. Rachel will study in Chile in February of 2017 to further her research on Latin American dictatorships and collective memory.

Joseph Obeid

University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Joseph Obeid is currently a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He graduated at the top of his class at Hough High School. At UNC Charlotte, he is a Levine Scholar majoring in both physics and mathematics. In his free time, he is an avid runner for the UNCC running club. He is very involved on campus, serving as the president for the Palestinian Cultural Organization and secretary for the Society of Physics Students as well as a volunteer research assistant, studying the radiation signature of cancerous tissue. He hopes to attend graduate school and specialize in astrophysics so we can better understand our place within the universe.
